Alyssa:Have you ever felt totally out of sync, not just with your health, but with your business too? Like you're constantly putting out fires, juggling a million things and still not getting to the root of the problem? Today, I'm joined by Jodi, a transformational energy medicine practitioner, who's all about helping people get back in tune with themselves. What she teaches about has so much overlap with the challenges that we face. If you ever felt like your beliefs, emotions or stress levels are holding you back, this episode is for you. Welcome. Like your beliefs, emotions or stress levels are holding you back. This episode is for you. Welcome to the show, jodi, and thanks for being here. Hi, alyssa, yes, it's great to be on.
Jodi:Thanks for asking, that's great.
Alyssa:Of course it's so great to have you here and to kick things off. I'd love to hear more about your journey. I've actually never heard of a transformational energy medicine practitioner, so tell me more about that. And how did you develop your incredible 12 week program, the harnessing harnessing the power to heal yourself. Tell me more about that.
Jodi:Yeah, well, I guess that's it. So that's where I am now and I've got to that point. So the program will start at, sort of, at the end of the question. The program is a part of, I guess, the shortcuts of everything that I've learned on my journey, because I haven't always been in this place where I am now. So 12 years ago, 11 years ago, I left a relationship that was not very good at all, but I had two young children at the time, but I was in such a bad place that I'd left without them and then had to deal with me to find out who I was, so that I could actually show up for them. And so to say that it's been an interesting journey I wouldn't have said interesting at the time, but I've learned so much about life along the way. And that was just the beginning, because then you've got life, you still have to get up and get on with things. So I actually went down the traditional route and the other thing that's, I've also been in the health system for 30 years.
Jodi:In acute care I was in intensive care initially and then sort of transferred over to the cardiac side of things the heart, and running a cath lab. So if you have a heart attack, coming in and putting in stents or pacemakers, if the pacing wasn't right or any rhythms that weren't right, so we used to oblate them. But I'm also no longer there. But at the time I was in intensive care and that was great because at least I got up and went to work in the morning, but that was about all I did. And then I was introduced to yoga. But at the same time then I was, I went along the traditional route and saw the psychologist and took antidepressants, and 12 months in I was still in exactly the same position. So that was kind of when I threw all that out the window and thought, no, I've got to do something. And I didn't really have a plan, but I guess that was me kicking into my intuition. There was no way that I could sustain what I was doing and I didn't want my life to be like that, which is why I left in the first place. So I got introduced to yoga and that was incredibly transformational because even in the first two weeks of the classes that I took, I was in tears at the end of every class and so, even though at the time I wasn't sure what was going on, it felt so much better for going. So it's a form of energy medicine. So that's where it all began.
Jodi:And then I did a yoga teach training course because I wanted to find out more about it for my own benefit. And, yeah, incredibly powerful because it included mindfulness and my mentor. What a woman. She'd been doing yoga for 40-odd years so she ate, slept, lived it in every sense of the word and, yeah, it was quite incredible, a real character, and just taught me so much about everything, not just yoga, you know, and so it was so handy having someone like that to support you through the journey, but also the group of women that that were involved in the course. I mean, wow, just beautiful, those type of people that seek out to do something like that. I was surrounded by them for the first time, you know, and I got to enjoy their presence.
Jodi:And three months into that, I was introduced to energy psychology and that's all about dealing with your emotions and hello, who deals with their emotions in our society? And that was like. That was like life on steroids. Steroids because I had already been introduced to the physical side with yoga and I've always done sport and things anyway, but that was the mind and that was like leaps and bounds jumping right ahead. So for 18 months I got to work on me and I was still working part-time, but doing it and it was so transformational.
Jodi:So that was really the foundation of change. And my children have always been in my life, but certainly not on the terms that I would want. So they then started to come into my life more. But of course, life goes on, doesn't it? And my ex-husband happens to be English, so he decided it was time to come to Manchester because we all grew up in Australia, as you can tell from my accent and so they came over here, but they had dual citizenship, so I then had to get a visa to come over, and that took a couple of years. That was a drama, and everything, too, that took a couple of years.
Alyssa:Wow, no, that's fascinating. Just your entire story, uh, from you know being, you know a doctor and then doing this whole three 360 into, uh, you know, going into yoga, like that's such an amazing, incredible transformation. Um, yeah, a specialist nurse actually.
Jodi:So so just you know, at the top of top of the field in the nursing specialist as opposed to a doctor. But yeah, we worked in the lab as a, as a, as a like with the consultants yeah, and that really it.
Alyssa:You know, I and I find with energy psychology that's such an interesting it's not no one really talks about it like energy psychology and what it can do to the body and the mind. And I find it especially helpful for coaches, consultants, service providers, because I find that so much of their work involves holding space for others, and often at the expense of their own emotional well-being and what they're feeling. And so I find when you're constantly giving energy to your clients or your business, it's easy to kind of overlook what's happening within yourself. And so I like how energy psychology offers a way to process those deeper emotions and kind of clear those mental blocks that you're feeling. And so it allows you to kind of show up fully for your clients, and, you know, not just for your clients but for your own business as well. Which kind of leads me into my next question. So how can solopreneurs use an energy medicine, exercise kind of in their day-to-day to stay balanced and take care of themselves, while still kind of showing up fully for their clients and take care of themselves?
Jodi:while still kind of showing up fully for their clients. Well, honestly, it's the best thing to be able to show up fully for your clients. So there's where to start. There's so many of them. One of the really basic exercises is it's actually called spooning the feet. It's grounding. It's so grounding.
Jodi:So when you know, certainly in the climate in the UK, you can't always get outside and go barefoot on the ground when it's snowing outside or it's wet and revolting. So you actually get a stainless steel spoon and you know what? Stainless steel if a magnet sticks to it, that's the spoon you want and then you run it on the bottom of your feet because I know it's bonkers, isn't it? The earth holds negative ions and we and our technology and everything, we hold positive ions as humans and we're actually magnets as human beings, but we get clogged up with positive ions and so to get that flow happening with the earth, like we would have done if we were walking barefoot in caveman days, we need to. We wear rubber-soled shoes, don't we? So we stop that flow when we walk outside. So if you and the spoon works to bring the positive um ions down to your feet so it can connect, as though you are connecting with the earth to get that flow happening and it really balances everything out when you're grounded.
Jodi:So, yeah, as bonkers as that sounds, it's called spooning the feet, and I have got a. I've got a youtube channel and that's one of the exercises on there. So, um, so everyone, anyone's got the opportunity to have a look and see if what my explanation hasn't made a lot of sense to you, get on and have a look, for sure that's great.
Alyssa:That's such great advice and I'm actually going to try that. Let's see.
Jodi:Yeah, I do every morning and every night I've got a spoon by my bed and all my clients well, my clients now, when they come to see me if they come and see me as opposed to online I give them a spoon so they can go home it. Then they've got no excuse but to ground, because it's one of the basic energy, what do you call it like the basic energy framework? That is one of the things that we want to do, so that then all the other things that we can work on are going to hold a lot longer, because you're already in alignment.
Alyssa:I love that. I love grounding exercises. Like, for example, what I'll do is I'll go walk barefoot like in nature, in a forest or you know, like just on the ground you know, because it's just, it's so healing for me and it just calms me down.
Alyssa:Yeah, it is, and so you know you can do little things like that and I love that exercise. I actually never heard of that, so I'm going to try that myself. But, building on all of those, you know, grounding exercises and all of those things that talk about with energy psychology, I know your program focuses on tools like the law of attraction and, you know, creating an action board. These concepts are really intriguing, especially for solopreneurs with big visions, for, you know, businesses or for their life, and so how guide people to use some of these tools to turn their goals into reality?
Jodi:well, it's a really good question actually. So the, the program itself. It has an online component and that's a lot of that is going through the. It's a lot of it's about awareness about what your beliefs are, what stresses you and what emotions you're actually experiencing, what your stories are, what stresses you and what emotions you're actually experiencing, what your stories are. So once you start to become aware, then we know what we're working with to overcome from an energetic point of view, but at the same time, anything that is triggered while you're doing the program.
Jodi:We also get on and have one-on-one sessions. So it's very much a case of you just live your life. Whatever's surfacing for you in the story, let's deal with it. So because, let's face it, life happens, doesn't it? So, week to week, I guess the journal questions some of them are set up to trigger you so that we do get those. And the deeper you dig, the more benefit that we do get that those, um, and the deeper you dig, the more benefit that you'll get from it. But also, if you're not ready to move that energy, that's fine. You know it's very much meeting you where you're at, because it's not something that it, your body, will only allow me to deal with the energy that you're ready to deal with. It's that, yeah.
Alyssa:Wow.
Jodi:And we've got therapeutic tools. So one of the modalities I use is Eden Energy Medicine and we can test where the energies are not strong and which ones are strong and which ones are weaker, and then, from a balance out point of view, we know which exercises then to give to balance them out. So it's a really bespoke program energetically as to what you need.
Alyssa:Yeah, so you're doing like one big audit for yours, for people who are joining this program.
Jodi:Completely. Yeah, that's awesome, I love that and then so if there are things that are limiting for them while they're doing their action board and there's blockages. Well, let's work on it.
Alyssa:What's going on, and I believe it's like individual right Per person, like I feel like everybody has their own energetic blocks that are not necessarily in the same place as somebody else.
Alyssa:So it is like you know, and I feel like that's it's such a personalized experience that a lot of people can appreciate, because it is something that it's know, follow a calculation and it's kind of generic.
Alyssa:It's extremely personalized to the person and what they're feeling and experiencing, which makes this program, uh, so interesting. And so I think you know that's such helpful advice for a lot of us who are, you know, who are maybe feeling mental blocks or feeling energetically out of alignment and they need help to, and support to, get back in tune with themselves. And so what I love about this part of the show it's called the brilliant bite of the week, and this is the part of the show where we leave our listeners with a quick, actionable takeaway that they can use to spark their own brilliant ideas or something that they might really think about, that they should go for their next step. And so what is one piece of advice or mindset shift or a strategy that you would like to share with our listeners to stay connected to themselves while building their business, or just being more in alignment with themselves.
Jodi:Okay, definitely I got lots, but one of the biggest things for solopreneurs is we need to make sure that we give ourselves self-care. That's a priority. It's not a let's put that at bottom of the list, because everything else is more important. That's to be at the top of the list because then everything else flows. So just something if you're not so good at that, write down 10 things that you love to do but you haven't done for a long time, just do that and then, one by one, you're going to put them in. That's 10 weeks of things you're going to do. So we're talking one a week. You're going to actually book whatever it is that you've got on the top of your list. You're going to put that in your diary and you're going to book it. If it's a massage book, the massage. And so for 10 weeks you've got 10 things that you're going to do for self-care, for yourself, and Alyssa can be, she can be your accountability partner.
Alyssa:Okay, yeah, honestly.
Jodi:I can't, you can't stress how important it is because it's so easy just when you're working on yourself on your own or you know just, you get so caught up in your own headspace doing all your business, admin and things online. Get up and go outside like nature, just go for a walk in nature or something like that, to get back to you.
Alyssa:That's right, that's amazing. Thank you so much for sharing that with our listeners, and it's going to be so helpful for a lot of people who are just kind of stuck and just need that next step, and so I know our listeners right now are going to be walking away with so much inspiration. So thank you so much for this super valuable conversation today. For those people who want to learn more about your work or connect with you directly, where can they find you online?
Jodi:Yeah, so my website it's jodianlawcom, so that's Jody with an I and Anne with an E and all one word. And then I've got a Facebook page and Instagram page and a YouTube channel and it's all the same jodianlawcom. Awesome, yeah, absolutely. Have a look and just um see if anything helps you that I've got out there. All the free things. I've got some free things on my website that you might be interested in.
